How to Keep Your Cool in Tetris Multiplayer
Don't let mistakes and white knuckle multiplayer matches get you frustrated. Instead, keep some of these tips in mind!
It’s hard not to get invested in Tetris. Because the game is so easy to pick up and play, the desire to become the very best can take hold. Once it does, you might play for several hours at a time.
Whether you view “best” in terms of finally achieving a max high score in Tetris for the NES like Harry Hong did back in 2009, or by being undefeated in the multiplayer section of Puyo Puyo Tetris, your Tetris goals are there to help you improve.
Of course, there are bound to be a few bumps as you work towards your Tetris dreams. Rather than letting these bumps discourage you, however, it’s important to remember how to stay calm while playing Tetris multiplayer.
Mistakes Happen

Let it be known that mistakes are going to happen in Tetris, and you’re not going to be the only one making them. Yes, even the pros mess up! Rather than getting worked up over a misplaced Tetrimino or a disappointing score, you should instead make a point to learn from your blunders.
What were you doing when you accidentally Hard Dropped that Tetrimino in the wrong position? What did you do during your last Tetris match that you’d like to avoid in the future? Mistakes can be frustrating, especially when you’re invested in a heated Tetris match. However, mistakes are also crucial for success.
No one becomes a Tetris Master without ample amounts of practice used to correct mistakes. Just keep in mind while playing Tetris that mistakes don’t make you a bad player. They happen to everyone, and can help you get closer to your goals rather than farther away. So, take your mistakes in stride and hop back into another match.
Ignore the Competition

Now, we’re not suggesting that you completely ignore what’s going on in your opponent’s Matrix. After all, this can be a viable strategy when it comes to sending over garbage. However, it is important to ignore certain aspects about the competition. Namely, how good other people are at Tetris.
While playing multiplayer, you’re bound to encounter someone who’s better than you are at Tetris. You may be able to brush off one or two defeats, but if you encounter a string of them, you’ll likely find yourself growing discouraged. Don’t let defeat get you down! Multiplayer Tetris is a great way to improve your skills.
Every defeat you suffer is another step closer to becoming a Tetris Master. When your brain starts nagging you that you’re not as good as you’d like to be, try to tune it out and ignore the competition. Well, unless you’re winning. In which case it’s totally normal to bask in your hard fought victories!
Bad Days Happen

Last, but certainly not least, it’s important to remain calm even when bad days happen. We’re all going to have bad days from time to time. Perhaps we encounter a dense cluster of traffic on the drive home, or perhaps we woke up feeling sick.
What’s nice about Tetris is the game’s ability to help distract us from our troubles. Don’t let a bad day get the better of you. If things just aren’t going your way, spend some time playing a few zen games of Tetris without any set goals and see if it helps.
Rather than working solely towards a high score, or defeating opponents in multiplayer, use Tetris to ease your mind. In the past, I’ve used Tetris to help me eliminate stress and it’s always been surprisingly effective. Once you’re feeling calm again, it’s time to dive back into Tetris multiplayer and show your opponents who’s boss!
